Overview:
Chen Da Wei (aka David Chen, Hong Kong CEO), has met with the Chinese president in Beijing to discuss the People's Republic's needs in order to attain super-power status. Acting on the president's directives, Chen builds dossiers on the U.S. delegates most likely to support his position in the trade agreement. Especially Senator MacKenzie, who is near bankruptcy and desperate for re-election funds. The Senator has engineered a huge formal gathering at which his daughter Lane, half Asian and working in the diplomatic corps in Taipei, will announce her engagement to Li Yang, Chen's nephew. But when Li's old girlfriend declares him the father of her unborn child, Lane is pressured into announcing her engagement to Chen, instead. Thus begins a tangled web of personal, political, and clandestine activities that will culminate in death, assassination, and betrayal, all played against the backdrop of the Sino-American Trade Agreement and the reunification of Taiwan.
