Overview:
As women with breast cancer quickly discover, the completion of their treatment does not mean that life will continue much as it had been before their diagnosis. Rather than feeling relief, they are often exhausted, anxious, and fearful. Hungry for a return to a "normal" life, they discover that the old version of normal no longer applies. They are beset by physical discomforts and are emotionally volatile, fearful of intimacy, afraid for their children, and worried about recurrence. There could be no more knowledgeable a guide for women embarking on this new journey than After Breast Cancer - written not only with professional wisdom by an oncology social worker but also from the author's own experience as a breast cancer survivor. It is a practical, empathetic, comprehensive handbook on the full range of issues - physical, psychological, medical, logistical, human - that women face as they learn to reshape their lives as survivors; and it will enable them to rediscover their future.
